Lydia Ngugi

Ms. Lydia Ngugi has been engaged in the shipping and maritime industry throughout her career. She is an International Maritime Law Lawyer and specializes in the field of Marine Environmental Law, especially on matters Climate Change in the Shipping and Maritime Industry. Over the last couple of years, she has worked with both private and public organizations as a Maritime legal expert.
Ms. Ngugi, currently the Head of MTCC- Africa also has experience working as a consultant for the International Maritime Organization on Marine Environmental Law issues. In addition to this, she has lectured Maritime Law in Public universities. She has also advised local and international organizations on Maritime related issues. Ms. Ngugi holds a Master’s degree in International Maritime Law from the IMO - International Maritime Law Institute (IMO-IMLI) in Malta and has attended specialized trainings in the field of Marine Environmental Law with a focus on Climate Change in the Shipping and Maritime Industry among others.

Ruth Mbeyu heads the Administration function and has a vast experience in finance and administration industry. She holds a Bachelors Degree for Commerce in Finance and Accounting from Pwani University, Kilifi and a Diploma in Business Administration from JKUAT.

Musa Alfan
ICT Officer (Full Time Staff)
Musa Alfan has a strong background in the field of information and communication technology (ICT), particularly within the maritime industry. With progressive experience in various roles, he has developed a comprehensive understanding of the sector.
Starting as a Website Master and ICT Assistant at the Kenya Maritime Authority, he gained valuable insights into the technological aspects of the maritime field. His time at a Kenyan Import Company and a Transport and Logistics Company exposed him to broader industry operations and logistics, enhancing his overall perspective.
Musa is the Information Communications and Technology (ICT) Officer at the Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre for Africa (MTCC Africa). His seven-year tenure at MTCC Africa indicates a deep dedication to the organisation's projects and goals. His involvement in projects related to greenhouse gas emissions, energy-efficient technologies, and port air quality emissions showcases his contribution to environmental sustainability within the maritime sector. His current role as a project coordinator for the TEST Biofouling project further demonstrates his commitment to innovation and tackling challenges within the industry.
His diverse experience, from ICT roles to involvement in environmental projects, demonstrates his well-rounded skill set that combines technology, industry knowledge, and a focus on sustainability. His track record suggests he's an asset to the maritime technology and environmental community.
Michael Mbaru
Technical Expert – MTCC Africa
Mr. Michael Mbaru is an Environmental Specialist with solid years of experience in developing and monitoring environmental programs, policies and procedures to ensure protection of the environment and sustainable development.
Possess good technical and project management skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and daily responsibilities. Mr. Mbaru is extensively trained in multi-disciplinary fields such as marine environment protection, maritime studies, occupational health and safety, oil and gas management, oil spill/disaster management and response, among others giving him the much-needed blend of expertise. He is the Green House Gases (GhG) Expert and Team Leader at Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre for the African Region (MTCC-AFRICA)
