The Global MTCC Network (GMN) Phase II Project is led by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) initiative funded by the European Union under the Global Gateway Strategy. The project supports developing countries in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from maritime transport through practical technology solutions, strengthened institutional capacity, enhanced public-private partnerships, and gender-responsive action.

Building on the achievements of GMN Phase I, the project contributes directly to the implementation of the 2023 IMO GHG Strategy by focusing on demonstrating real-world low-carbon technologies in ports and ships, strengthening maritime stakeholder capacity, mobilizing investment for sustainable shipping solutions, and promoting the participation of women in maritime decarbonization efforts.

How MTCC Africa Delivers the GMN II Project in Africa

As the regional implementing partner for the GMN Phase II Project in Africa, MTCC Africa supports Member States in advancing practical, sustainable solutions for maritime decarbonization. Working closely with the IMO, governments, ports, industry, academia, development partners, and regional organizations, the Centre promotes technology uptake, strengthens institutional capacity, fosters strategic partnerships, and supports an inclusive transition towards a low-carbon maritime sector.
