MTCC-Africa held its launch ceremony on the 13th of December 2017, at the Sarova Whitesands Hotel in Mombasa, Kenya. The ceremony was led by Kenya’s Principal Secretary for the State Department for Maritime and shipping affairs, Mrs. Nancy Karigithu. The event was attended by the assistant Secretary General/IMO Director of the Marine Environment Division, Stefan Micallef, the Deputy Head of Delegation of the European Union, Mr. Bruno Pozzi as well as representatives from 13 different African countries. Following the launch ceremony, Maritime industry leaders from across Africa participated in the first MTCC Africa Regional workshop for which the theme was MTCC Africa, MARPOL Annex VI and Debate on African Ports.

The outcomes of the workshop included the impact of the maritime shipping industry on climate change and climate change mitigation measures.
