Organized by MTCC Africa under the GMN Phase II project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the IMO, the GMN II Regional Workshop, hosted by the Government of the Republic of Namibia brought together maritime administrations, port authorities, technical experts, industry partners, and regional organizations to advance the theme “Accelerating Green Shipping in Africa: Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Finance for an Inclusive Low-Carbon Maritime Future.” Building on the GMN II objectives, the workshop provided a practical and collaborative platform for exploring energy-efficient technologies, digitalization solutions, climate finance pathways, and policy readiness in support of the 2023 IMO GHG Strategy.

Three days of dialogue and technical exchange where participants shared national experiences, examined emerging green shipping corridor opportunities, and contributed to actionable recommendations that will support a just, inclusive, and implementation-focused decarbonization pathway for Africa’s maritime sector.

The GMN II project emphasizes on-the-ground demonstrations and capacity building to ensure impact on infrastructure development. Notably, Namibia and Mauritius have been selected to host pilot projects showcasing innovative decarbonization solutions. These pilot projects, aim to demonstrate scalable solutions for maritime GHG reduction in the African context. The MTCC Africa Regional Workshop in November 2025 under GMN Phase II project will bring together stakeholders to learn from the pilot project, share knowledge on decarbonization efforts in the African context, and kick-start broader regional efforts towards low-carbon shipping.
