Dr. Robert Kiplimo, BSc, MSc, PhD.

Project Director, MTCC- Africa

Dr. Kiplimo joined Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in 2006 as an Assistant Research Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering after completing his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Thermofluid option). He proceeded for his Doctoral degree course in Okayama University, Japan in 2008 and graduated in March 2012. He served as the examination officer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering during years 2012 – 2014. He was appointed the Program Coordinator of Marine Engineering Program, January 2014 to August 2014. Since September 2014 to date he has served as the Chairman of the Department of Marine Engineering and Maritime Operations where he has made great efforts to secure ship board training for the marine students. He has initiated several MoUs with the Maritime Shipping industry and academia both locally and internationally. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Marine Engineering with over 10 years of research and teaching experience. His research areas of interest include: Internal Combustion Engines with a bias to renewable alternative fuels, Marine Engines, Engineering Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Refrigeration and Air conditioning, Pollution Control and Mitigation and Climate Change. Prior to joining JKUAT he worked at Kaluworks Aluminum Rolling Mills Limited as a Maintenance Engineer for two years.

Dr. Fridah Simba

Dr Fridah Simba is the Director for the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Mombasa Centre and will be acting as the Project Head for MTCC Africa.


Mr. Michael Mbaru

GHG Expert – MTCC- Africa

Mr. Michael Mbaru is an Environmental Specialist with solid years of experience in developing and monitoring environmental programs, policies and procedures to ensure protection of the environment and sustainable development. Possess good technical and project management skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and daily responsibilities. Mr. Mbaru is extensively trained in multi-disciplinary fields such as marine environment protection, maritime studies, occupational health and safety, oil and gas management, oil spill/disaster management and response, among others giving him the much-needed blend of expertise. He is the Green House Gases (GhG) Expert and Team Leader at Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre for the African Region (MTCC-AFRICA)



Energy Efficiency Expert – MTCC- Africa

Eng.Mulwa Denis Musyoka holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Communication Engineering from Moi University and a Master’s degree in Maritime Affairs specializing in Shipping and Port Management from the World maritime University. He is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers (MICS), a practicing engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya and a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya.
Eng. Mulwa is currently pursuing Doctor of Philosophy degree in Business Administration specializing in Global Business at the University of Nairobi and works with Kenya Ports Authority as the Senior Electrical Engineer in charge of Generators, Substations and Distribution. He has had a vast experience in the designs and testing of High Voltage and Medium Voltage switchgears having worked with Schneider Electric as a graduate electrical engineer. Eng. Mulwa is the Author of “Maritime and Ecological Cost Benefit Analysis of Onshore Power Supply; A case study of the Port of Mombasa”, Published by Lambert Academic Publishers, GmbH Germany.


Ruth Mbeyu

Administration Officer – MTCC- Africa

Ruth Mbeyu heads the Administration function and has a vast experience in finance and administration industry. She holds a Bachelors Degree for Commerce in Finance and Accounting from Pwani University, Kilifi and a Diploma in Business Administration from JKUAT.
